About the Event

This  an introductory workshop aimed at photographers who want to get to know their cameras better and improve their photography skills.

The workshop is divided into three parts:

  • The ABC of Digital Cameras
  • How To Take The Perfect Photo,
  • Practical Session.

In Part One of the workshop you learn the basics of cameras and are introduced to peripherals such as lenses, memory cards and filters. You’ll master the essential settings of your camera and learn how to apply the magic of the Exposure Triangle to achieve well-lit, in-focus photos.

This is followed by an overview of must-know concepts in photography like white balance, metering modes, and how to use each effectively.

Part Two of the workshop will introduce you to the basic elements of any photograph: Light, Composition and Story. You’ll get to know the different genres of photography, and how to compose your photos using proven principles and to get the most from your subject material.

Lastly, we touch on the basics of post-processing - how to edit your photos, apply special effects and prepare them for printing using different software applications and techniques.

The workshop ends with a hands-on practical session where you’ll have a chance to practice your new skills. Depending on weather conditions, this session will either take place indoors or be a neighbourhood photo walk.

You’ll receive a workshop kit consisting of five photography cheat sheets to help you implement your new skills after the workshop, and a notebook and pen for sketches and reminders.

Camera requirements: Please bring your cameras. Size, model and make is not important. Note that the course is designed for digital cameras. Wear comfortable shoes!

Course duration: 10am – 3pm.
